Radcliffe Litter Pickers was formed in April 2019 by a few local individuals who were dismayed at the state of our local environment. Our first pick was on The Outwood Trail where we removed a lot of historical rubbish. Since this date we have cleared thousands of bags of rubbish and many large fly tipped items from Radcliffe’s town and surrounding countryside.
We have a group event most weekends - these can be group picks or helping maintain local community gardens, including a project we commenced in 2019 to regenerate St John’s derelict Churchyard. On a monthly basis we help tidy and do the gardening at St Mary’s Parish Church. Volunteers are always welcome. You can litter pick on your own or in a small group, and we can introduce you to other people who live in your area of Radcliffe. |
We also encourage local businesses to become involved. This year we have held several community picks and were supported by Asda, McDonald’s, Dunelm, Six Town housing and Brightside Brewery, who also sponsor us, and we are grateful to them all. However, we need more businesses to be responsible for their surroundings.
Litter picking is a great way to meet people and take a little exercise. It’s also a great way to practice mindfulness if you suffer from mental health issues such as anxiety and depression, or you just need to relax more. Children with a parent and people with learning difficulties with a responsible adult or carer are very welcome to join us. There is a social side to our group. We meet for lunch, have hot drinks after our events and organise a fun social gathering at Christmas and at other times during the year. Come and join us!
